Flink was founded in September 2020 by Christoph Cordes, Julian Dames, Nikolas Bullwinkel, Oliver Merkel and Saad Saeed.
Flink has two primary sources of revenue- product markup and delivery fees.
The grocery and essential products sold through the app, help Flink earn from the margins in the selling price. A delivery fee is also charged along with this for the speed at which the products reach the customers’ doorstep.
Flink is an on-demand platform to order grocery and essentials. The order gets delivered to the customers within minutes. This is achieved by operating multiple warehouses across the cities they are available in in order to reduce the delivery time from warehouse to the customer. Flink also hires dedicated delivery partners and provide them with e-bikes. This is in contrast to the delivery model adopted by Deliveroo and Instacart. They get their delivery partners on-board on a contractual basis.
Flink has raised a total of $1.1 billion so far in funding across 4 rounds with participation from 10 investors in total. DoorDash and Target Global are the latest addition to their list of investors. Other investors include Bond, Mubadala Capital Ventures, Prosus and Naspers, etc.
